2009 Sailing Club Awards

Friday, October 23rd, 2009

Carter enjoyed going to the Lake Saint Louis Sailing Club Awards Ceremony / Costume party. In a decision sure to cause long-term psychological damage, Daddy dressed as Princess Buttercup and Mommy was the Dread Pirate Roberts. Carter was our treasure. As much fun as we had, it was a little bittersweet as this was Carter’s first “second”. Hope you enjoy the gallery.

Junior Olympic Sailing Festival

Sunday, July 19th, 2009

The Lake Saint Louis Sailing Club hosted the Midwest Junior Olympic Sailing Festival. It was great to see all the kids out there enjoying sailing. Carter and I went to volunteer, but they didn’t need our help so we ended up just going for a swim… how cool is it that you can watch a regatta from a swimming pool?!? I think we both really enjoyed it, as you can see.

Pirates Ahoy!

Friday, July 17th, 2009

Carter got to experience piracy, Lake Saint Louis style! The kids go out on the lake in small sailboats, kayaks, etc. to plunder and capture the booty! Kathy and Carter had a great time.

2009 On-the-Water Boat Show

Sunday, June 7th, 2009

The Lake Saint Louis Sailing Club hosted its primary fundraiser, the On-the-Water Boat Show over the weekend. Unfortunately, I did not help out much. Fortunately, Carter lent a lot of moral support. Plus, daddy did get to play with a Hobie hybrid kayak/paddle boat/sailboat (and came away very impressed). The event went very well considering bad weather on Sunday and the state of the economy. You can see all the pictures here.

Violet and Carter getting the boats ready

Violet and Carter getting the boats ready

Sailing season is almost upon us. There was some minor fiberglass work to be done to get the boats in good condition for the season, so we all got together. I can’t really claim to have helped much, but Carter did a great job providing moral support!

Sailing Club awards ceremony

Friday, November 14th, 2008

Well, the year ended with a nice awards ceremony. We were a little late, but decided to show up and make it Carter’s first public appearance. Hopefully noone minded, Carter sort of stole the show. I am officially on the board for the sailing club in 2009, which I look forward to. It is a great club and a great group and I want to help it continue to grow. I again want to thank everyone involved with the club for a great year, they truely are a special group. The obligatory photo album is here.

2008 Sailing Season Ends

Saturday, November 1st, 2008

Sailing on Lake Saint LouisLast chance to sail this year, and I sure enjoyed it! 76 degrees for the high, the big lake, a good breeze, and enough foliage to prove its November… absolutely beautiful. It was also nice to have a cabin boat come out and join us. It has been a fun season marked by meeting good friends and learning a skill that I always wanted to learn. What a year, look forward to the next.

Labor Day weekend

Monday, September 15th, 2008

My parents came up for a very nice visit on Labor Day weekend. They helped us with some projects around the house, took us to the dog park, took out a kayak, watched me sail, and supported me in my triathlon efforts. My dad’s pictures are up here

Kathryn, Carter, and I tried to get in the Guinness Book of World Records for participating in the longest line of air rafts. I don’t think we quit made the record, unfortunately. We were part of the contingent from the sailing club, and they are always doing something fun. It was a crazy scene, and we had fun.

Sailing improvements

July 21st Regatta

Sailing is still a blast. Yesterday, for the first time, I did not come in last in one race! It must have been good luck that Kathy come along to support me. I came in last the rest of the races, but I still had lots of fun.
