Grant’s Farm is another uniquely St. Louis attraction. Named after its first owner, Ulysses S. Grant, the Busch family now owns it. I think the pictures describe it better than I could. Carter seemed to particularly enjoy the parrots and the baby goats. Daddy particularly enjoyed the free beer. I am sure we will be back there many times.

We went to see the band Plastic at the O’Fallon public concert series. Again, Trish and Jessica joined us. The band had a lead singer change, and was not exactly what we remembered. However, it was still a perfect night and Carter seemed to have a blast, so we all enjoyed the evening together.
Yet Another Zoo Visit
Sunday, August 23rd, 2009
Like all good zoo visits, we first started our day at Bob Evans, where Carter showed off his skills as a busboy. Then, we were off to the zoo. It was an exciting day for many reasons. We joined the zoo, because we enjoy it so much. Carter really started responding to the animals, he seemed to particularly enjoy the zebras and the hippos. He also went on his first train ride. The tunnels were a little scary, but overall he very much enjoyed it. He also wanted to show off that he could drink from a water bottle. Overall, it was a great day. The pictures are up here.

2009 Lake Saint Louis Triathlon

I completed my first Olympic-distance triathlon. It made me want to go for 70.3, but time will tell… honestly, I wasn’t well prepared for this. On the plus side, since I did not push myself too hard, I did finish strong. Without a doubt the highlight was waving to Carter during the run (both out AND back) and having him recognize me and smile. THAT was winning first place. The competition itself…. well, I am proud to finish an Olympic distance event. My bike shop tuned my bike, but did not torque down the cable to my front derailleur, so I was stuck on the small gear the whole time. Oh, well, better than the big ring. Results are up. Again, not overly impressive. On the other hand, I was 29th in the swim… and the only time I swam between this event and the 2008 St. Peter’s triathlon was the swim practice for this triathlon. Makes me wonder what I would do with more practice. Of course, the swim doesn’t matter much, since it is less then half an hour but even the fastest cyclist is over an hour on the course. Need to get that bike time down! Oh, well, here is to next year! Here are the pictures

Back on August 9th we took Carter to the St. Louis Science Center. It was a very impressive museum, and I think Carter really enjoyed it. See for yourself!
