Race Across America

I took a nice 30 mile bike ride today, trying to get out before it was hot. About 2 miles from home, I saw a cyclist coming the other way. I politely waved. Then I noticed a SAG vehicle behind them with a windshield sticker titled “Race Across America”. Curious, I just looked up what Race Across America is. Turns out, this guy (or his relay team) was about 983 miles from completing a 3000 mile bike ride across the entire country! Some of competitors do this solo, finishing in little as 9 days! The whole thing is crazy, I can’t believe I have never heard of it… kudos to the competitors!

There is a piece on Race Across America in today’s (June 30) NY Times Science section, page D4. You can find it on line too
