Sandbagging

Friday, June 27th, 2008

We have been lucky the flooding of the Mississipi has not affected us at all. On the otherhand, my commute takes me through the floodplain where I see underwater sports fields and a boat/RV storage center. Just as I was driving by there on Wednesday NPR announced an urgent need for volunteer sandbaggers in the area. Unfortunately, it took me over 1/2 hour to find the information on how to volunteer. On the plus side, I spent my evening helping with some other very nice people.

Kathy & I in the hall of mirrors at the City MuseumToday, Kathy took me to the City Museum. Wow! That was a lot of fun. Strongly encourage you to bring your child there. As ours was not yet ready, we had to bring our inner-child. It was a blast! Hard to describe. The best description I have heard referring to it was a “surrealist landscape”, I would add “that begs to be explored.” Please enjoy the picture gallery here.

Joined Velog

Wednesday, June 11th, 2008

At the request of Isaac I joined Velog. I added my ride log to the right. Overall training is going well. I swam from the dam to the island on the big lake… over half a mile. It is kind of fun to actually get somewhere while swimming, I am so used to just doing laps (even if the distances I am doing now are dwarfed by what I used to be able to do).
